BMC2 will be under new leadership beginning October 1, 2025.
Dr. Nicholas Osborne, Director of BMC2 Vascular Surgery, will assume the role of Director of BMC2 on October 1, 2025.
Dr. Eric Cantey, who joined BMC2 as Associate Director of BMC2 PCI this year, will become Director of BMC2 PCI.
Dr. Hitinder Gurm who has served as Director of BMC2 and its Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) registry since 2008 will step down and transition to a strategic role as Chair of a new BMC2 Executive Board, forming later in 2025.
New Leaders
Dr. Osborne is a vascular surgeon who also has expertise in complex statistical methods and using large databases to examine variation in quality of care in the United States. He has long focused on examining physician and patient decision-making and determining the real-world long-term outcomes of treatment of Peripheral Artery disease.
“I am excited to build upon the successes BMC2-participating hospitals and centers have seen under Dr. Gurm’s guidance and expertise as director,” Dr. Osborne said. “He is the ultimate champion for patients, and I strive to lead BMC2 with the same passion and dedication.”
Dr. Cantey's research interests include quality improvement in PCI and comparative effectiveness of cardiovascular therapies. He leads BMC2’s efforts to develop a statewide protocol to improve care for patients with cardiogenic shock.
BMC2’s Transition Plan
The Consortium will implement a new Executive Board with Dr. Gurm serving as the inaugural Chair.
The Executive Board Chair of BMC2 will provide strategic leadership and governance oversight to support the Consortium’s growth and impact in cardiovascular care across Michigan.
The Board will bring together a comprehensive team of experts to ensure the collaborative's success. Dr. Gurm will guide strategic direction and tactics that strengthen our partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, influence policy, and elevate BMC2’s profile nationally and globally.
“I have been honored to serve Michigan’s cardiovascular patients and their families throughout my tenure as Program Director,” he said. “Drs. Osborne and Cantey, the BMC2 team, and our colleagues around the state are exceptional partners in this work; their commitment to improving quality of care and outcomes is unmatched and I am grateful for their guidance and support over the years.”
