Enroll in New App by February 24th To Ensure Continued REDCap Access

A person sits at a laptop using a phone for two-factor authentication.

Beginning February 25th, Okta will replace DUO two-factor authentication for BMC2's REDCap access. This change is due to the University of Michigan’s selection of a new two-factor authentication service. For continued access to REDCap, all REDCap users must enroll in Okta.

We understand that this is an inconvenience and appreciate your partnership in completing enrollment to help ensure BMC2 data remain secure.

Step-by-Step Guide: Enrolling in Okta

Please continue to use DUO for two-factor authentication until Okta goes live on February 25th.

Follow the instructions below or read the article, "Enroll in Okta Using the Okta Verify App Knowledgebase," for instructions.

Set up Okta by visiting: http://oktaverify.umich.edu/
NOTE: You’ll need both your computer and your cell phone for this setup process.

  1. Click “Enroll your UMICH Account”.
  2. Log in with your U-M credentials. This is the same username and password you use for REDCap.
  3. On your computer screen, you’ll see a QR code. Use your phone to scan it, and select either Apple or Android, depending on your device.
  4. Follow the link to download and install the app on your phone.
  5. Open the Okta app on your phone
  6. On your computer screen, click "Continue
  7. Select these prompts in order on your phone:
    1. Get Started
    2. Add Account
    3. Organization (work, school, or company)
    4. Skip (when asked if you want to add an account from another device)
    5. Yes (when asked if you have a QR Code)
    6. Choose Yes (when asked if you want to allow push notifications)
    7. Okta will ask if you want to enable biometrics such as face or fingerprint ID. If desired, tap Enable. Otherwise, tap Not Now.

You should see a message saying, “Account Added. Congratulations! Setup is now complete!

Test Okta

  1. On your computer, click “Sign in to Okta.”
  2. Enter your uniqname and password (do not use your email address).
  3. Once signed in, your computer will prompt you for a code.
  4. Open the Okta app on your phone to find the code.
  5. Enter the code on your computer.

Testing is now complete!

Please note that setting up a "fast pass" - which remembers passwords - is not recommended for BMC2 REDCap users.
